Ikorodu Principal Wins National Productivity Award

Mrs Agnes Iyabo Elusakin, Principal, Baiyeku Junior Community Secondary School, Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, has been awarded the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) Award 2022.

The National Productivity Award, according to President Buhari, was designed to stimulate productivity consciousness, reward innovation, dedication and hardwork among Nigerians across fields of human endeavours.

Elusakin was the winner of the 2019 Overall Best Teacher Award in Nigeria, and her new feat was coming 23 years after the award was first received by a teacher from Lagos State.

The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, speaking during the presentation of the award to the recipient, attributed the feat to the creative implementation of the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of the Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu-led administration.

She averred that the Governor, through his disposition, has become a leader in education and technology advancement, human capital development, creativity, innovation and total development of all school children across the State.

Highlighting some major achievements under her leadership as the TG/PS in the last five years, Mrs. Adekanye disclosed that the District had produced three One-Day Governors and two One-Day Deputy Governors of Lagos State among other notable achievements during the period.

“The District had in 2017 produced One-Day Governor, One-Day Deputy Governor; In 2018, it produced One-Day Deputy Governor; 2020 and 2021 saw the emergence of another One-Day Governor; The District also produced the Overall Best Teacher in Nigeria in 2019; Best Public Senior Secondary School in Nigeria in 2020 and the Fourth Overall Best Teacher in Nigeria in 2021, among other”, she said.

In a statement by the Head of Public Affairs Unit, Ministry of Education, Mr Ganiu Lawal, made available to newsmen, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, said that the awardee has really done the state proud with the honour.

She described Mrs Elusakin as a committed, resilient and dedicated teacher, noting that her contribution to the teaching profession and the education sector,even beyond Lagos State, is acknowledged.

Mrs Elusakin was a teacher at the premier College in Ikorodu Division, Oriwu Senior Model College, when she won the Presidential Award as the Best Teacher in Nigeria.

She has also won Best Teacher in Education District II and in Lagos State and her feat was recognized by the Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group (IDRDG).
